EPISODE 241Words, words, words… do we need them? Words, words, words.. do we need them? by Kasia & Mac Sokulski | Shutter Time http://traffic.libsyn.com/shuttertimewithsidandmac/ep241.mp3 Hosts & GuestsMac SokulskiKasia Sokulska Share EpisodeApple PodcastsSticheriHeartRadioSpotify Download Episode About This Episode I had a chat with David Szwduik about his latests article “Worth 1000 words”. Are the titles, or narrative that we sometimes attach to our images skew the viewer’s perception on the image. Take the photo above. If I called it “Sadness”, you as a viewer immediately evoke that emotion, and start seeing the sadness and loneliness of the subject. But if I called the image “Peeping Tom”, you as a viewer would have a different reaction, wouldn’t you. So the question is do we need to “explain” our photography, to provoke an emotional response and lead the viewer to the story that we see in the image? Or do we just let the photograph speak for itself? It’s a tough question, because sometimes a mediocre image can become better in viewers eyes if there is an narrative attached to the image. What do you guys think? Looking forward to your comments!See you next week.
